The GPS Insight Driver Efficiency Report (the DER Report)
GPS Insight now has one of the most powerful reports available to determine overall driver efficiency.
It is the “Driver Efficiency Report” or the “DER Report” (pronounced the “Dherrr report”)
The DER report takes your drivers’ activity for a day and compares it to the optimal route which would have been necessary to achieve all stops for that driver’s route.
Once we compare the driver’s ACTUAL mileage and time to the GPS Insight recommended route, we can rank your drivers by their percentage over (or sometimes under) the ideal amount of distance/time.
Here is how you run the report from within the GPS Insight interface:

This will pull up the efficiency report for a given fleet using a 3 minute stop threshold (in this case, the Flagstone group):
Note that one vehicle, F3, shows as 413% more drive time and 50% more miles than it should have driven given its stops (note that the stop threshold can be adjusted to better suit your exact requirements).
By drilling down by clicking on “download” under Route map, the “ideal” route is shown on a map for that vehicle, given its 3+ minute stops for the day:
By comparing the “suggested” ideal route to the ACTUAL route taken it is easy to see the inefficient and wasteful excess driving and short stops (in this case the driver got lost then later went to a Hollywood Video on company time and fuel !!!):
The map below shows the excess driving where the driver gets lost then later hits the Hollywood Video store:
Drilling down on the 1 minute stop and turning on the “shopping” map layer, we see the reason this driver took excess time & drove excess miles. He was renting a video for the weekend at Hollywood Video!
With the availability of this new report, you can let GPS Insight do the hard work determining which vehicles were least efficient for a range of dates, and then drill down on the worst offenders. You can spend your time working with them to gain more efficiency through training, better maps (or use our routing and navigation enhancements), or ensuring they spend less time on personal business throughout the day. This is a much better use of your time than running reports and staring at maps, trying to determine who may be robbing your company of time, efficiency, dollars, and customer satisfaction.
