You can view your vehicles’ status on a map using a combination reports on your mobile web browser and Google Maps Mobile.
You should have an internet-capable phone with a web browser. There are often charges from your cellular service provider related to internet use. You should be aware of these before you begin.
NOTE: GPS Insight does not provide technical support for cell phones or your internet service. Check with your cellular service provider to get support for your mobile device.
At the bottom of each report, you have the option to view your vehicle group in Google Maps Mobile. Read more about this great mapping tool at How do I view my vehicles within Google Maps Mobile?
How current is the map I’m looking at in Google Maps Mobile. Does it auto-refresh like Google Earth does?
Google Maps Mobile does not support Network Links for auto-refreshing maps. When you run the Current Status Report at gps-i.com in your mobile web browser, a new map will be generated. To view current data you need to first run the report in your browser, then view the indicated map in Google Maps Mobile.
On the map I’m seeing a point labeled ‘Expired’; what does that mean?
Because Google Maps Mobile does not support “auto-refreshing” the map data, our maps expire 30 minutes after they are generated. This ensures that you are not looking at very outdated map data. This is also a security measure as you won’t be able to visit the map at the same URL after 30 minutes. To view more recent map data, return to your browser and re-run the Current Location Report and use the new map links on that report.
