Exclude First and Last Stop in Begin and End of Day Report

A feature has been added to our Begin and End of Day Report to assist in running much more accurate payroll-like reports. Since some customers pay their drivers when they arrive at their first job site through the time they leave their last job site, we allow for that computation now. Additionally, trivial (convenience store/gas station) stops may be excluded from the first/last stop, if they do not meet the drop-down length of time (e.g. 10 minutes). The time from starting the vehicle at home to arriving at the first substantial stop is excluded from “payroll time.” Additionally, the time spent driving home from the last substantial (e.g. > 10 minute long) stop is also excluded from “payroll time.”

A standard Begin and End of Day Report still shows where the vehicle was parked overnight as that is the first and last place that activity is recorded for that vehicle. But by excluding the first and last stop, we can get a better sense of where the vehicle started and ended its day before it went home to park overnight.

The minimum stop duration is used to exclude some short stops that might occur on the way to work or to the first job. For example, if the driver usually stops for 5 minutes to pickup some donuts or gas on the way to work, this could be excluded as the first trip because the stop is not long enough. Or if the driver usually goes to a warehouse to pick up supplies for 15 minutes, then goes to a job site where he works for at least an hour, you could exclude stops shorter than 30 minutes from the report, if that is helpful from a business perspective.

The mapping functions still show history for the full day for each vehicle.

This feature allows for measuring drivers’ hours from the time they start their first job for the day until they leave the last job of the day, excluding trips to convenience stores or gas stations at the beginning or end of the day.

Future versions will allow for 2-3 landmark groups to be specified to further refine the calculation for certain customers. These landmark groups will include “home” landmarks, “valid stop” landmarks, and/or “unauthorized” landmarks. This will allow the emphasis on the length of time for a landmark to be relaxed, in favor of a more landmark-by-landmark definition inclusion/exclusion basis.
