GPS Insight now provides the capability to view your vehicle locations on your smart phone or mobile device using Google Maps for Mobile as part of its standard product. See instructions for using this below.

A specific iPhone app is also available at the **iTunes App Store** and we have plans to add an iPad and Android app soon.

One-Time Setup

1. Install Google Maps for Mobile on your smart phone or mobile device.

Visit http://google.com/gmm on your mobile device. Follow the instructions to install the GMM application.

NOTE: iPhones already has this application standard. iPhone users may skip this step.
NOTE: GPS Insight does not provide technical support for the Google Maps for Mobile application. The application works on a limited number of mobile devices. Check with Google for support for your mobile device.

2. Create a Mobile Maps link.

On the GPS Insight bar go to MappingMobile MapsManage and click Setup Mapping.

3. Find the Vehicle Group you want to map on your device. Click Create.

The link is created.

Using Google Maps Mobile

1. Launch the Google Maps Mobile application on your mobile device. Select Menu – Search.

2. Type in your Mobile Maps link and hit Search.

The vehicle group will appear on the map. Navigate using the numbers on your phone.

Press the number again to see date, time, latitude & longitude, speed and ignition status for a vehicle.

NOTE: Google Maps Mobile has limited support for this feature.

To update the map reenter your link (you should be able to select it as a previous search item and not have to type it in every time).

Note: If you make changes to the vehicle group, you may need to create a new Mobile Maps link for the changes to be reflected in your Mobile Maps.

Modifying the Mobile Maps Link

There are a few adjustments you can make to your Mobile Maps Link to refine your results.

Understanding the Mobile Maps Link

The basic Mobile Maps Link is in three parts, separated by slashes. Let’s look at the demo Mobile Maps Link: http://gps-i.com/k/demo/0892

  1. Username: demo
  2. Mobile Maps Token: 0892

On most phones, Google Maps Mobile will only display the first 9 results of any set of points. If this is the case for your phone, you want to add another number to the end of your Mobile Maps Link for the page number of results you want. For example, if the demo Mobile Maps Link had more than 9 vehicles and you wanted to see the second page you would enter http://gps-i.com/k/demo/0892/2

Searching

Another way to narrow your results is to search on the vehicle name. The Mobile Maps Link supports partial name matching searching inserted between the username and Mobile Maps Token. The demo Mobile Maps Link has two vehicles that start with DIX. To limit the results to just these two vehicles you would enter http://gps-i.com/k/demo/dix/0892.kml. Searching is case-insensitive.
