==== GOOGLE EARTH IS » VERY « RELIABLE AND STABLE WITH THE NEWEST RELEASE ====

Please update to Google Earth 4.1 at [[earth.google.com]]

Pulling too much data into Google Earth used to crash the system, but no loner does typically
The information below has become somewhat obsolete, but may be useful to someone so we are leaving it up

Google Earth is an extremely computationally intense program, and a modern wonder of the world. However, it periodically gets stuck and/or crashes if left for too long without restarting, particularly with the amount of data which GPS Insight feeds it. You can usually shut it down by pressing the top-right “x” to close the window, then say “no” when asked if you wish to save your temporary places.

If Google Earth won’t close properly, you can press “ctrl-alt-delete” and choose “task Manager.” Then kill the process as shown below:

It may take a minute to finally die, after which it will ask you if you wish to send an error report (you can safely say “no thanks”).

Google Earth continues to get more and more reliable, but is still prone to these occasional issues, as are many Windows-based programs (our servers run Linux and generally go years without ever crashing or needing a reboot!) Luckily, Google Earth will allow you to shut it down manually these days, as opposed to the early days in 2005 after it first was released. Back then, if it crashed, you had virtually no way out other than to pull the power to your PC and reboot. REALLY!
